Following the release of his debut album “Treading air” in December 2010, vocalist/guitarist/percussionist/live-looping artist Dylan Hammond began continually touring the country. Having toured the east coast from The Great Ocean Road to Byron Bay twice last year and from Melbourne to Adelaide earlier this year, ‘the road’ is a kind of home away from home for him. Settling only for 4 months in Falls Creek, Victoria this year for his 6th consecutive snow season as the resorts resident musician, he’s played between 9 and 14 shows a week from June to October. Now in need of a sea change and incredibly well rehearsed, Dylan is super keen to get back to “van life” and on the road for the official Treading air Tour. Beginning the tour mid-October in Torquay, Victoria, Dylan will be playing some of his most high profile shows to date in Melbourne, Wollongong, Sydney, Byron Bay, the Gold Coast, Brisbane and the Sunshine coast ending the tour late November in Maroochydore, Queensland.
The independent release of Treading air is the result of years of playing, writing and recording with bands and as a solo artist. Beginning his musical journey on pianos and organs as a child, he then moved onward to drums, percussion, guitar and vocals as a teenager. As a result, Dylan’s feel and rhythm have been strongly developed and mark the basis for his percussive live performances. At the heart of his shows is a live looping pedal system, allowing this singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist to create bass lines, rhythm tracks, beats and vocal harmonies to accompany his essentially acoustic performances. Audiences are often surprised when their first impression of a solo acoustic artist suddenly turns into a one man band and back again.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY -
Dylan Hammond is a lover of life and music. He is a multi- instrumentalist, a passionate vocalist and an energetic performer. This picker and strummer of stringed instruments, has guided himself through the exploration of acoustic, electric and bass guitars, mandolins, ukuleles and banjos.
His sometimes sweet, sometimes bitter, often powerful and always emotive vocal performances are for the eyes as well as the ears. The effort behind each note can be seen in the expressions of his face and the movements of his body as he travels freely through aggressive screams into delicate falsettos.
Beginning his musical journey on the piano as a child and moving to the drums as a teenager, Dylan’s feel and rhythm are strongly developed and mark the basis for his percussive live shows. A talented and careful percussionist, his busy hands are never far from a hand drum or a pair of maracas sited amongst the myriad of percussion instruments that surround him.
